Yayoi Kusama started to paint at around the age of ten, using polka dots and nets as motifs. In 1957 she went to the United States, where she showed large paintings, soft sculptures, and environmental sculptures using mirrors and electric lights. In the latter 1960s, she staged many happenings such as body painting festivals, fashion shows and anti-war demonstrations. Over the years she won several prizes fot her work.
Kusama's work radiates happines. What I appreciate is that it has a sense of ease. On top of that, she lets the user interact with her work, so the outcome is never predictable.
In this installation, she creates a white "canvas" and gives a thousand children each a sticker. the children can stick their sticker everywhere they want in the room. This is the outcome:
